  • SNAP/FoodShare benefits battle is in the courts, some assistance made it to some people in some states

Gov. Tony Evers says people who receive benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) should be getting them overnight.

Late Nov 7 Trump administration appealed the Judge ruling from Nov 6, and the Supreme Court on Friday blocked the order to fully fund SNAP food aid payments amid the government shutdown even though residents in some states already have received the funds.

  • Early 1:30pm Start, Iowa County Democratic Party November 8th 2025 Meeting. Sarah Rodriguez 2:30pm

One-time early 1:30pm meeting start to allow business to complete before a governor candidate speaks.

Sarah Rodriguez’s campaign reached out to have her visit our monthly meeting Saturday November 8, 2025. Sarah will arrive around 2:30 and stay for 30-45 minutes. Usually she talks for 10 minutes or so and then enganges in discussion with the audience, which I think is just fine. Looking forward to the discussion.

This may be a future solution to work with candidates wanting to speak. We do have some significant business to get through, including elections, coming events and the question of keeping the office. But I imagine that can all be accomplished in an hour. Doing the business stuff first means that we can focus on Rodriguez with no pressure to have a hard stop.

Note: Elections will be held at the December 13, 2025 2pm meeting at the country party office, 43 High St, Mineral Point.

  • Mark Pocan Noon November 1, 2025

Mark Pocan today at noon in the office in Mineral Point, 43 High St.

AND while I’m at it, I will tease another interesting visitor next weekend at our regular county party meeting: Lt Gov. Sara Rodriguez will be visiting us on Saturday. Details to follow!

Saturday, October 11th @ 2:00 p.m. Democratic County Party monthly meeting, 43 High St. in Mineral Point. • State Senate Candidate Forum in Platteville Monday October 20th, 5:30pm

Monday, October 20 @ 5:30 p.m. State Senate Candidate Forum in Platteville, sponsored by the UW-Platteville College Democrats. The location of the forum is the Nohr Gallery on the UW-Platteville Campus, 30 S. Hickory St. If you have not yet had a chance to attend one of these forums, they have been excellent. They admirably display the talents of the people who are hoping to represent the Democratic party next year in a crucial race to end more than 15 years of uncontested Republican control of the Legislature. So please do make time to come!

Neighbors support each other. Neighbors are the building blocks of communities.

  • Two Events Today 9:30 & 2

September 13, 2025 – Two important events of note for you on Saturday.

First, the Grant Co. Dems are organizing a big demonstration in Platteville to protest Trump’s ongoing march toward authoritarianism. Platteville is an excellent location for such action, because politically it is a closely divided city. Therefore the bigger the numbers of people who show up for the demonstration, the more impactful it will be.

The rally will begin at 9:30 a.m. Those who want to attend should plan to meet at the intersection of Business 151 and Water Street in Platteville. Parking will be available in the hotel parking lot near the highway. You can either bring your own rally signs or the Grant Co. Dems will have some extras available for you.

After the rally, the Iowa County Dems will hold our regular monthly meeting in Mineral Point at 2:00 p.m. The address is 43 High St. We will devote much of the meeting to making plans for the next nine months or so. We need your help, so please consider coming to the meeting and contributing your ideas.

  • Grant County Democratic Party will be marching in the Platteville Dairy Days Parade

September 6th the Grant County Democratic Party will be marching in the Platteville Dairy Days Parade. The parade begins lining up at 8:45 a.m. in the main parking lot of UW-Platteville on Hickory St. This parade is a big deal in those parts. I attended last year and hope to do the same again this year.It would be great if some of our friends in Iowa county could help make for a strong Democratic turnout in the parade. Derrick Van Orden participated in the parade last year – let’s do our part to show him that he’s in for a rough time next year!
Organizers have prohibited overt political signage in the parade, so the Grant Co. party wants anyone who wants to carry a sign to emphasize community values on the order of the following:

    Dignity and Justice

    Compassion and Commitment

    Respect and Diversity

    Inclusion and Participation

    Transparency and Accountability
